I love freshly baked scones, especially with a cup of tea!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. white whole wheat flour

  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 tsp. allspice

  • 5 T. unsalted butter, chilled and cut into pieces

  • 1/2 c. dried cranberries

  • 1/3 c. half-n-half

  • 1 T. orange juice (I squeezed one orange and used all the juice.)

  • 1 egg

  • Zest of one orange

Directions

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or lightly grease).

Stir together the flour, baking powder, salt, and allspice. Cut in the butter until it resembles course crumbles. Stir in the cranberries.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the half-n-half, orange juice, egg, and orange zest. Add to the flour mixture and stir just until combined.

Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead a couple of times. Shape into a 1/2"-thick round, about 8" across.

Transfer to the baking sheet. Cut into 8-10 wedges. Bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
